In the last article, we study about some the persons who named before their birth. Now we will be sharing about the persons whose names were changed by the God in the Bible

We will be starting from the New Testaments and will be ending with the Old testaments. What I mean is that I will try to share all the names with the best of my knowledge.

Here are Are Names of the People Whose names were changed in the Bible:

Jehovah himself given the name to Abraham and Sarah.

  1. Abraham – The word Abram Means Exalted father and Abraham means father of a multitude. Bible says in the book of (Genesis 17:5) “He shall no more be called the Abram, his name shall be Abraham; a father of many generations have I made thee.’’

  2. Sarah – The word Sarai means princely and Sarah means queen of princes or mother of princes. (Genesis 17:15) “God said to Abraham, you shall not call your wife Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.”

Here an angel came and given the name to Jacob.

  1. Jacob – The word Jacob means cheater, deceiver, and Israel means God’s people. (Genesis 32:28) “And he said, your name no more shall be called Jacob but Israel. For as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.”

Mishael, Hananiah, Daniel, Azariah here Ashpenaz changed the name.

  1. Daniel – The word Daniel means God is judge and Belteshazzar means the chief deity of Babylon.

  2. Hananiah – The word Hananiah means gift of the lord and Shadrach means command of Aku, The moon God.

  3. Mishael – The word Mishael means who is what God is and Meshach means who is as Aku.

  4. Azariah – The word Azariah means whom Jehovah helps and Abed-nego means the God of science and literature.

(Daniel 1:7) “The prince of eunuchs gave names: he gave unto Daniel the name of “Belteshazzar”, and to Hananiah of “Shadrach”; and to Mishael of “Meshach”; and to Azariah of “Abednego””.

Nebuchadnezzar changed the name Mattaniah to Zedekiah

  1. Mattaniah – Meaning of Mattaniah is Gift of YAHWEH. And the meaning of Zedekiah is “The Lord is righteous”; God’s justice. (2 King24:17) “And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

Moses changed name Hosea to Joshua

  1. Hosea – Meaning of Hosea is salvation. And Joshua means Jehovah saves. (Numbers 13:16) “And Moses called Hosea the son of Nun Joshua.”

Pharaoh changed the name of Joseph to Zaphenath-Paneah

  1. Joseph – Meaning of Joseph is May Jehovah add\give increase. And Zaphenath-Paneah means Egyptian for God speaks; creator of life. (Genesis 41:45) “Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of on, to be his wife.

Jesus changed the name of Saul to Paul

  1. Saul – Meaning of Saul is asked for, prayed for. And Paul means little or small. (Acts 13:9) “Then Saul, (who also is called Paul) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.”
